The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has engaged the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to form a Super League select side to face Silver Strikers on November 21 at Silver Stadium as part of RBM’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

RBM deputy governor for operations Meg Kajiyanike said the engagement of FAM is to ensure that coordination is flawless and only the best team will be selected.

“We request FAM coordination to form the Lilongwe Super League select and its technical panel that will comprise team manager, coach, deputy coach, team doctor and 18 players. The emphasis is that the players should be from the Super League teams based in Lilongwe,” she said.

She further said there will be prize money for the winners and runner-up, adding that expenses for the select team will be met by RBM.

Kajiyanike said there will be prize money for the winner at the end of the game, but currently they are working on logistics.

To accommodate the fixture on November 21, RBM has since asked FAM to engage Sulom to shelve Super League fixtures on the day.

FAM president Walter Nyamilandu has welcomed the request from RBM, saying they are happy to celebrate with the central bank which has contributed tremendously towards soccer development.

“We will sit down with Sulom and work on rescheduling the games. The good thing is that the request has come at the right time,” said Nyamilandu.
